Kalumbrella by Merwenna Kalumbrella by Merwenna
This is a parasol I painted for Her (current) Highness of Atlantia, Kalisa, in time for this year's (2012) Pennsic. She wanted her heraldry (the lionface) and her badge (the pink unicorn) on there, and she wanted it to be colorful and prettiful and exciting. My laurel suggested stained glass as a fun idea, so I looked up a million pictures of rose windows and stained glass and came up with this. :D

It's painted on a canvas parasol purchased somewhere at a Pennsic past. I used indoor housepaint from Lowe's because a lady I know who paints garb and other fabrics recommended it as a good fit for weather and sun and whatnot, as well as flexibility. I verymuch hope that it holds up well. It was a pretty fun commission.

The best part is you can see the whole design really well from the inside when you are holding it. Yaaaay!

(it was nicknamed the kalumbrella. for kalisa. yeah. we make silly words here.)

Custom painted parasols are available on my Etsy store!

If this holds up in the rain you should go into business making umbrellas. For reals.

Heh, thanks. In theory it should hold up, but I dunno if she's tested it yet :)

Hmm, I'm afraid I don't know where one could find this type of parasol... My personal parasol and this one that I painted were both purchased from a merchant at Pennsic War a few years ago... I didn't see them there this year, though. If I find them anywhere else, I will try and let you know here on dA :)

Why can we not like comments here? Cause I really like the above comment.

Also, the Kalumbrella totally rocks! Did you not take any pics from the inside? I sure she was really pleased and you will be able to spot her very easily at Pennsic :)
